The Way Back: How Christians Blew Our Credibility and How We Get It Back
by Phil Cooke and Jonathon Boch

Picture
On a dusty hilltop, Jesus once kickstarted his church with a ragtag group of fishermen who called themselves The Way. Truth be told, the builders of Christianity were a bunch of nobodies.  They were powerless and flawed and sometimes petty.  But they were committed.  They were all-in.
Within a remarkably short time, The Way became the world's most influential religious faith -- a force in culture, politics, literature, science, philanthropy, and the arts. Against impossible odds, that group of nobodies astonished the world. Two thousand years later -- by any measure -- Christianity is retreating on all fronts. The Way has lost its way.
In The Way Back, Phil Cooke and Jonathan Bock take a hard look at Christians today and reveal that we, as a salesforce, have lost our faith in our product. Where's the passion, the excitement, and the commitment that two thousand years ago made such improbable and staggering growth possible? The Way Back will inspire and equip you to learn from that wonderful group of nobodies, so that you too can astonish the world once more.

Well versed
by Jim Garlow

Picture
Conservative Christians admit that they do not speak out on political or cultural issues because they do not know how to support their beliefs from a biblical basis, according to a recent poll. Instead, they remain silent on critical issues like marriage, racism, and transgender issues because they feel uninformed and ill-equipped to defend their beliefs.

Pastor James L. Garlow offers the solution—a practical, biblical guide for the 21st century Christian informs and prepares readers to tackle the important issues of the day and engage with those around them in a loving, Scripturally-based manner.

In Well Versed, readers will learn Biblical responses to:
  • Religion in the Public Square - Purpose of Government, the First Amendment, and Political Correctness
  • Family and Life Issues - Marriage, School Choice, Abortion, Sexual Orientation, and Healthcare
  • Economics - Capitalism vs. Socialism, Taxes, Debt, Welfare, and Minimum Wage
  • Law and Society - Judiciary, Hate Crimes, Social Justice, and Racism
  • Foreign Policy and World Issues - National Defense, Immigration, Israel, the Environment, Islam, and Terrorism
  • Political Participation - Media and Civil Disobedience

Wealth, Poverty and Politics: An International Perspective
by Thomas Sowell

Picture
n Wealth, Poverty, and Politics, Thomas Sowell, one of the foremost conservative public intellectuals in this country, argues that political and ideological struggles have led to dangerous confusion about income inequality in America. Pundits and politically motivated economists trumpet ambiguous statistics and sensational theories while ignoring the true determinant of income inequality: the production of wealth. We cannot properly understand inequality if we focus exclusively on the distribution of wealth and ignore wealth production factors such as geography, demography, and culture.

Sowell contends that liberals have a particular interest in misreading the data and chastises them for using income inequality as an argument for the welfare state. Refuting Thomas Piketty, Paul Krugman, and others on the left, Sowell draws on accurate empirical data to show that the inequality is not nearly as extreme or sensational as we have been led to believe.

Transcending partisanship through a careful examination of data, Wealth, Poverty, and Politics reveals the truth about the most explosive political issue of our time.

Plunder and Deceit
by Mark R. Levin

Picture
In modern America, the civil society is being steadily devoured by a ubiquitous federal government. But as the government grows into an increasingly authoritarian and centralized federal Leviathan, many parents continue to tolerate, if not enthusiastically champion, grievous public policies that threaten their children and successive generations with a grim future at the hands of a brazenly expanding and imploding entitlement state poised to burden them with massive debt, mediocre education, waves of immigration, and a deteriorating national defense.

Yet tyranny is not inevitable. In Federalist 51, James Madison explained with cautionary insight the essential balance between the civil society and governmental restraint: “In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.”

This essential new book is, against all odds, a likeminded appeal to reason and audacity—one intended for all Americans but particularly the rising generation. Younger people must find the personal strength and will to break through the cycle of statist manipulation, unrelenting emotional overtures, and the pressure of groupthink, which are humbling, dispiriting, and absorbing them; to stand up against the heavy hand of centralized government, which if left unabated will assuredly condemn them to economic and societal calamity.

Levin calls for a new civil rights movement, one that will foster liberty and prosperity and cease the exploitation of young people by statist masterminds. He challenges the rising generation of younger Americans to awaken to the cause of their own salvation, asking: will you acquiesce to a government that overwhelmingly acts without constitutional foundation—or will you stand in your own defense so that yours and future generations can live in freedom?

Political Christianity: A Call to Action by Christian Citizen (Author)

Picture
Dear American Christian, Our political situation is bleak: nation-building, rising taxes, broken election promises, immoral legislation and legislators... the list goes on and on. But we've allowed this to happen. For the last 150 years, throngs of American evangelicals have surrendered under the white flag of pietism, refusing to enter the "worldly" political arena. By default, Christians have allowed God and His Word to be shut out of politics, enabling secularists to install a new Western Savior -- the omnipotent State. Political Christianity is a manual to help establish a truly biblical approach to politics. Impressively thorough yet concise, this readable book covers a great deal: from political presuppositions to biblical principles of government. It even provides practical insight into the pesky "lesser-of-two-evils" voting dilemma. With this book, Christian Citizen joins the honorable ranks of anonymous American Patriots who have fought with their pens for the cause of liberty and justice under God. Christian Citizen is anyone who has taken the time to apply the Scriptures to every area of life, public and private. It's high time we all become true Christian Citizens. Think like a Christian. Then act like one privately and publically. This is your mission... whether or not you choose to accept it. Political Christianity: A Call to Action is not for you... You already take your Christian civil duties seriously. You recognize how far America has fallen from her once exemplary Christian republicanism. And you're doing what you can to reverse that: voting conscientiously, running for local office, supporting Christian legal and political movements with your money and time, teaching those around you about the history of the United States and the principles of biblical government... No, this book is not for you. It's for your neighbor.

Men and Marriage
by George Gilder

Picture
"Timely when originally published, Men and Marriage is essential now given the the warlike climate of
male-female relationships, unfortunately fostered by radical feminism."   Rush Limbaugh

Men and Marriage is a critical commentary that asks the
burning question, How can society survive the pervasive disintegration of the family? A profound crisis faces modern social order as traditional family
relationships become almost unrecognizable.
George Gilder's Men and Marriage is a revised and expanded
edition of his 1973 landmark work, Sexual Suicide . He examines
the deterioration of the family, the well-defined sex roles it offered, and how this change has shifted the focus of our society.

Poverty, for instance, stems from the destruction of the family when unmarried parents are abandoned by their lovers or older women are divorced because society approves of their husbands' younger girlfriends. Gilder claims that men will only fulfill their
paternal obligations when women lead them to do so, and that this civilizing influence, balanced with proper economic support, is the most important part of maintaining a productive, healthy, loving society. He offers a concrete plan
for rebuilding the family in America. His solutions challenge readers to return to these roles and reestablish the family values that were once so crucial in staving off the ills that plague our country.

Gilder insists that it is time to reexamine what "liberation" has
wrought and at what cost. Only a return to traditional family values, he contends, can stem the tide of disaster.

George Gilder is the author of Wealth and Poverty , the
best-selling critique of Reaganomics, The Spirit of Enterprise, Visible Man , Naked Nomads , and The Party That
Lost Its Head . He was a speechwriter for Ronald Reagan and now writes regularly for The Wall Street Journal and National Review about material advances and their effect on society. His most recent books include
two other well-known social commentaries, Microcosm and Life After Television.

The Making of The President
by Roger Stone

Picture
In the tradition of Theodore White’s landmark books, the definitive look at how Donald J. Trump shocked the world to become president

From Roger Stone, a New York Times bestselling author, longtime political adviser and friend to Donald Trump, and consummate Republican strategist, comes the first in-depth examination of how Trump’s campaign tapped into the national mood to deliver a stunning victory that almost no one saw coming.

Stone, a long time Trump retainer and confidant, gives us the inside story of how Donald Trump almost single-handedly harnessed discontent among “Forgotten Americans” despite running a guerrilla-style grass roots campaign to compete with the smooth running and free-spending Clinton political machine.

The Anglo-American Establishment
by Carroll Quigley

Picture

Render Unto Caesar: Serving the Nation by Living Our Catholic Beliefs in Political Life by Charles J. Chaput

Picture
“People who take God seriously will not remain silent about their faith. They will often disagree about doctrine or policy, but they won’t be quiet. They can’t be. They’ll act on what they believe, sometimes at the cost of their reputations and careers. Obviously the common good demands a respect for other people with different beliefs and a willingness to compromise whenever possible. But for Catholics, the common good can never mean muting themselves in public debate on foundational issues of human dignity. Christian faith is always personal but never private. This is why any notion of tolerance that tries to reduce faith to private idiosyncrasy, or a set of opinions that we can indulge at home but need to be quiet about in public, will always fail.”
—From the Introduction

Few topics in recent years have ignited as much public debate as the balance between religion and politics. Does religious thought have any place in political discourse? Do religious believers have the right to turn their values into political action? What does it truly mean to have a separation of church and state? The very heart of these important questions is here addressed by one of the leading voices on the topic, Charles J. Chaput, Archbishop of Philadelphia.

While American society has ample room for believers and nonbelievers alike, Chaput argues, our public life must be considered within the context of its Christian roots. American democracy does not ask its citizens to put aside their deeply held moral and religious beliefs for the sake of public policy. In fact, it requires exactly the opposite.

As the nation’s founders knew very well, people are fallible. The majority of voters, as history has shown again and again, can be uninformed, misinformed, biased, or simply wrong. Thus, to survive, American democracy depends on an engaged citizenry —people of character, including religious believers, fighting for their beliefs in the public square—respectfully but vigorously, and without apology. Anything less is bad citizenship and a form of theft from the nation’s health. Or as the author suggests: Good manners are not an excuse for political cowardice.

Capitalism and Freedom: Fortieth Anniversary Edition
by Milton Friedman

Picture
Selected by the Times Literary Supplement as one of the "hundred most influential books since the war"

How can we benefit from the promise of government while avoiding the threat it poses to individual freedom? In this classic book, Milton Friedman provides the definitive statement of his immensely influential economic philosophy—one in which competitive capitalism serves as both a device for achieving economic freedom and a necessary condition for political freedom. The result is an accessible text that has sold well over half a million copies in English, has been translated into eighteen languages, and shows every sign of becoming more and more influential as time goes on.

The Harbinger: The Ancient Mystery That Holds the Secret of America's Future

by Jonathan Cahn

Picture
Before its end as a nation, there appeared in ancient Israel nine specific warnings and omens of national destruction – These same nine Harbingers are now manifesting in America with profound ramifications for America’s future and end-time prophecy.

Hidden in an ancient biblical prophecy from Isaiah, the mysteries revealed in The Harbinger are so precise that they foretell recent American events down to the exact days… the 3,000-year-old mystery that revealed the exact date of the stock market collapse of 2008… the ancient prophecy that was proclaimed from the floor of the US Senate and then came true…and more. The revelations are so specific that even the most hardened skeptic will find it hard to put down. Though it sounds like the plot of a Hollywood thriller – IT’S REAL.

The prophetic mysteries are factual but revealed through a riveting narrative the reader will find hard to put down. The Harbinger opens with the appearance of a man burdened with a message he has received from a mysterious figure called The Prophet. The Prophet has given him nine seals, each containing a message about America s future. As he tells of his encounters with the Prophet, from a skyscraper in New York City, to a rural mountaintop, to Capitol Hill, to Ground Zero, the mystery behind each seal is revealed. As the story unfolds, each revelation becomes another piece in a larger and larger puzzle, the ramifications of which are, even now, altering the course of America and the world.

The Inhumanity of Socialism by Edward F. Adams
Picture
The author offers a basic analysis of economic fundamentals and compares the capitalist and socialist viewpoints. Fundamental to his argument is the idea that personal profit motivates economic productivity like no other force, and that the maximum possible economic output is achieved in a system that utilizes that. He does acknowledge the evils of capitalism, but contends that the greater collective good is higher under capitalism than it would be under socialism. He emphasizes that his arguments are rooted in logic, not emotion, which is necessary when considering economics scientifically, but also acknowledges the importance of humanism and spends time discussing the application of humanist concerns within a capitalist system. Overall, the book is a fairly short and simple read that clearly and concisely explains simple economic concepts that are still relevant to modern society.

Closing of the American Mind: How Higher Education Has Failed Democracy and Impoverished the Souls of Today's Students
by Allan Bloom

Picture
In 1987, eminent political philosopher Allan Bloom published The Closing of the American Mind, an appraisal of contemporary America that “hits with the approximate force and effect of electroshock therapy” (The New York Times) and has not only been vindicated, but has also become more urgent today. In clear, spirited prose, Bloom argues that the social and political crises of contemporary America are part of a larger intellectual crisis: the result of a dangerous narrowing of curiosity and exploration by the university elites.

Now, in this twenty-fifth anniversary edition, acclaimed author and journalist Andrew Ferguson contributes a new essay that describes why Bloom’s argument caused such a furor at publication and why our culture so deeply resists its truths today.

WE STILL HOLD THESE TRUTHS: Rediscovering Our Principles, Reclaiming Our Future

by Matthew Spalding

Picture
We Still Hold These Truths is essentially a primer on the intellectual basis for America’s founding, and a history of how we got where we are today.  In ends with a guide to where the country needs to go from here. Written before the latest tragic rulings by the Supreme Court, it is nonetheless timely.  Well researched and written, it provides vivid details while not becoming so esoteric as to lose the more casual reader.

A good book for home schoolers and anyone needing an introduction or just a refresher on the foundations of the American Republic.  In one spot one will find the words United States used in place of the Federal Government, which the book painstakingly shows are not one in the same. While not a major grammatical error, the newly initiated into realm of American political history should be aware of it.  All in all a good read.
